Pentland has been involved in a number of diverse projects within the Public Sector over the years. Our experience, flexibility and location make us an appealing choice for potential customers, such as the University of Edinburgh, Essential Edinburgh, Scotland’s Rural College, and National Galleries of Scotland. Pentland Material Supply has the facilities and skills to support early stage prototyping and design proofs, as well as final scale assemblies and testing.
Our work with Essential Edinburgh is visible on Rose Street, where we decorated the walls of the BT Phone Exchange with steel panels. The panels feature the ‘Beachcomber’ poem by George Mackay Brown, with the artwork created by artist Astrid Jaekel. We also made the ‘Poetry Planters’ that are situated along the length of Rose Street.

Within Food & Drink, Pentland have worked with customers such as Scotbeef and have been involved in projects right from the design proofing and prototyping stage through to full engineered manufacture. With our years of experience and extensive capabilities, Pentland Material Supply can provide insight and advice on ‘Design for Manufacture’ when required to ensure the final product meets quality specifications.
pentland were instrumental in the development and production of the TenderScot machine, a stand-alone instrument used to perform the three most popular tests within the meat processing industry – Rapid Shear Force, Warner-Bratzler, and Compression ‘Bite’ Test. The TenderScot was featured in an episode of BBC1’s Supermarket Shopping Secrets in July 2017 and is used to demonstrate the tenderness of Lamb Roast.

Pentland has been a key supplier in the Agriculture sector, delivering a number of projects and services to various customers over the years. We have supported some of these projects from the initial stages of design proofing and prototyping, all the way to the final production and assembly. We are privileged to have Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) and Roslin Institute, a world-class animal sciences research facility, as our neighbours and partners on local projects. One of these projects was the award-winning ‘GreenCow’ project, in collaboration with the The AgriEPIcentre, to develop a state-of-the-art livestock gas emission research facility using respirometer chambers to measure methane output from cattle or sheep.
More recently, Pentland has been involved with Intelligent Growth Solutions (IGS) on their innovative Vertical Farming system, which is being developed with the world-leading James Hutton Institute in Dundee.
